Transformer Prime the only known Tegra 3 product

The launch of Tegra 3 is done together with the sucessor to ASUS Transformer, more precise Transformer Prime. This is the only unit we know for certain that will house Tegra 3, and all other information we have heard are just rumors.

Tegra3_11Exactly what we can expect from Transform Prime we can’t say, and more detailed specifications have not been announced yet. We do know it sports Tegra 3, get better battery time and a thinner design on both screen and docking station. Transformer Prime will also be introduced with Google Android 3.2 Honeycomb, while support for 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) will come later on.

More units are coming. Tegra is a strong brand from NVIDIA. When Tegra and Tegra 2 was released many questioned if they would be interested in a system processor from NVIDIA. LG Optimus 2X was the world’s first smartphone with a dual-core processor and Tegra 2 was just the step NVIDIA needed on the market.

Tegra 3 will not get the same slow start, but more designs are coming even if we were not told which they were. In 2011 there won’t be many more, but it is in 2012 that we have more to look forward to (like so much more?). Smartphones with Tegra 3 will appear in Q1 2012, but also more tablets with the new system processor is in development.

It has decided to keep Tegra 2 on the market due to strong demand. NVIDIA has been limited to selling Tegra 2 as the only product it actually has to offer. Tegra 2 will stay as the budget alternative, while Tegra 3 will be the more expensive product.

Tablets with Windows 8 will also arrive next year, and many companies have high hopes for the new operating system. Tegra 3 will support  Windows 8, which was presented earlier. Transformer Prime could be the only one in 2011 to house the new system processor, but never say never.
