When Microsoft presented its second generation portable media player it focused on the high definition video support. The name says it and many was wondering what kind of hardware Zune HD is hiding that would enable 720p video in such a small format. After some rumors and speculations it seems to be confirmed that NVIDIA and its ARM-based Tegra chip supplies the power for Microsoft’s new media player.
NVIDIA Tegra was shown plenty at Computex earlier this month and it was there, according to PC Perspective, that Microsoft confirmed the Tegra platform for Zune HD.
Zune HD is equipped with 3.3″ OLED display with 480×272 pixel resolution that stands out, but since the integrated display is anything but suitable for 720p material Microsoft installed an HDMI output too.
With Wi-Fi support and an integrated browser Zune HD can do more than just play music and videos, which the Tegra platform can also assist with through hardware accelerated playback of Flash material that NVIDIA is developing together with Adobe.
