NVIDIA acquired system-on-a-chip (SoC) company PortalPlayer back in November of 2006. PortalPlayer was best known for supplying Apple with various SoC circuits for its Apple iPods and iPhone. Now that stories are going around that NVIDIA is about to unveil a new family of SoC circuits called Tegra, it’s most likely a direct result from the acquisition. We disagree with other stories saying that this would be something spawning of the cooperation between VIA and NVIDIA, but we will have to wait and see and what is unviled at Computex next month.
