NVIDIA will according to rumors launch a new graphics cards on May 17th, called GTX 560. This card should not be confused with GTX 560 Ti that is already available, but this card comes with a crippled GF114 GPU and looks like GTX 460 in the numbers.
The card from NVIDIA, GTX 560 without the Ti suffix, is intended to close the performance gap between GTX 560 Ti and GTX 550 Ti where HD 6850 and HD 6870 are the current kings in both price and performance.
GTX 560 Ti, sans Ti become GTX 560 at a lower price?
GTX 560 will according to expreview sport 336 CUDA cores, 56 texture units, 32 ROPs and 1GB GDDR5 memory with 256-bit memory bus. This doesn’t just look like GTX 460 1GB, it’s the exact same numbers. GF104 and GF114 are the same circuit, except the latter is optimized for lower power consumption, so it may not come as a surprise that GTX 460 comes back as GTX 560?
GTX 560 will be clocked higher than GTX 460 though and ship with “no less than” 800MHz. GTX 560 should stand well against HD 6870 and HD 6850 and if true NVIDIA’s new card will perform like an overclocked GTX 460.
