Many have been complaining over NVIDIA’s lack of Vista-based drivers for its GeForce 8800 series and with only a few days left until the retail launch of Vista time is starting to run out. But now, NVIDIA has finally started sending out a Vista driver for its GeForce 8800 series, but so far only to developers, testers and the media, but an official launch is expected any day now. NVIDIA is very clear though that the driver is not fully optimized yet and claims that SLI is not to recommend, while the support for OpenGL seems to be far from good.
We’re eager to see how well NVIDIA has designed its Vista driver for the 8800 series as it actually is its first DirectX 10-capable series.
“NVIDIA’s plan is to make a driver available for end users on NVIDIA.com on January 30, 2007. This driver is a beta driver and the first SLI driver, intended to support GeForce 8, 7, and 6 series GPUs, and will add support for GeForce 8800 GTX/GTS DirectX 9 SLI on the top applications. NVIDIA will continue to work on optimizing our Windows Vista drivers to ensure maximum performance on 3D applications.”
