NVIDIA recently ended its pre-event before CES in Las Vegas. The graphics company docused on its hard work with the mobile processor circuit Tegra 2 and finished the conference by revealing a “secret” work together with ARM that focus on developing the first performance circuit based on ARM’s processor architecture.
NVIDIA VP Jen-Hsun Huang pointed out that ARM will continue license its current mobile architectures to a number of partners, but at the same time work closely with NVIDIA in the development of a new processor circuit using ARM’s instructions but take on performance computers.
When the new processor circuit will be available and what kind of performance we can expect was not revealedm but the code name is Denver and Jen-Hsun said the new chip will level playing field on the computer market where we so far only have Intel and AMD’s x86 architectures to choose from.
It confirmed that this is the previously rumored circuit that was said to be an ARM processor with x86 compatibility, information that turned out to be untrue since NVIDIA and ARM now sees a strong software platform to support their own architecture. Jen-Hsun ended with a cryptic statement about Microsoft planning a new operating system for ARM as a proof of the bright future of the architecture.
