Acer is going against the flow and is about to announce a netbook with AMD inside. It’s not the first to do so, but almost every other netbook relies on the Intel Atom platform. Acer Aspire One 521 will use the single-core AMD V105 CPU, code-named Geneva, based on the K10 architecture and peaking at 9W TDP.
The processors operates at 1.2GHz and will sport Radeon HD 4225 graphics, which together with DDR3 memory will be enough to go up against Intel Atom. The 10.1″ netbook supports WiFi, Gigabit Ethernet, Bluetooth 3.0 and has an HDMI output.
Acer says the battery time will be in the 7 hour range and the design is surprisingly tasty for Acer, with that chrome plated logo on the top. Price and availability should be announced later on.
