It looks like there is a market, although a small one, for PCI Express x1 graphics cards. Recently we saw how HIS announced a Radeon HD 4350 graphics card with PCIe x1 connector instead of the regular PCIe x16 connector. The graphics card from HIS was relatively expensive since the HD 4350 card costs around $100, or three times as much as an equivalent card with the PCIe x16 interface.

Club3D is trying to put prices right with PCIe x1 graphics card with two NVIDIA-based cards at somewhat lower prices.

The entry model is called Club3D 8400GS and comes with 256MB GDDR3 memory, and DVI and VGA outputs. With its PCIe x1 interface the card costs $60 in stores, which is still $25 more than the same card with PCIe x16 interface.

The second card is a GeForce 9500GT variant with 512MB GDDR3 memory and 550MHz GPU clock frequency. Just like the 8400GS card it has a low profile design and the price tag is around $90.

It’s still more expensive with PCIe x1 graphics cards than regular models with PCIe x16, but there are at least some more alternatives.
