There have been quite a lot of rumors about NVIDIA’s new graphics card flagship the last few months and now the first official reviews of GeForce 8800 Ultra have arrived. There have been a few Asian reviews that were published a bit early, but now a whole bunch of more legitimate reviews have surfaced. They’ve investigated the performance of NVIDIA’s new monster and just like GeForce 7800 GTX 512MB it is a tweak of an already acknowledged beast. As most rumors have indicated GeForce 8800 Ultra is more or less an overclocked GeForce 8800 GTX, which both performs and costs accordingly.

Far from any kind of surprise, GeForce 8800 Ultra is the new king of the hill and we will just have to wait and see what ATI/AMD has to counter with. NVIDIA has raised the clock frequencies of the GPU, Shader processors and the graphics memory quite a lot. From 575MHz/1350MHz/1800MHz to 612MHz/1500MHz/2160MHz, which seems to results in overall improvement of 10%, compared to 8800GTX.

The problem is that the price is about 30-40% higher, which makes it difficult to recommend it to anyone looking for anything but the most extreme there is. GeForce 8800 Ultra will cost more than $800 and we’re having trouble to motivate the cost. However, those who want the best doesn’t really have a choice though as this is the fastest card you can find today.

Below we’ve gathered the reviews of GeForce 8800 Ultra we’ve bumped into so far;
