Intel verkar fortsätta sin satsning på grafikkretsar då man nu tillsammans med två andra företag gett det israeliska företaget Lucid Information Technology Ltd ett bidrag på 12 miljoner dollar. Lucid arbetar med kretsar som ska kunna koppla samman upp till fyra grafikprocessorer samtidigt och siktar på att ha de första kiselprototyperna klara under slutet av 2007. Vad det verkar jobbar inte Lucid på en egen GPU då deras krets har en något annorlunda roll som kommer från det ökade användandet av flera grafikkretsar våra datorer.
The chip acts like a hub connecting the main processor to the multiple graphics processors, serving as a traffic cop. One part of it is a chip situated between the two units, and the other part is a software driver, that now supports Windows. The chip helps divide the graphics processing work among several GPUs, while the driver helps makes the application indifferent to the graphics processors in use.
Intel verkar i alla fall tycka Lucids teknik är intressant och vi ser fram emot att höra mer om utvecklandet som skulle kunna ta ordentlig fart efter det nya kapitaltillskottet.
