New times require new solutions. Intel has presented, well maybe not something new, but it will focus more on the concept of notebooks with ultrathin designs and long battery times, or what it calls an Ultrabook. The idea is to offer consumers a light and portable computer without performance limitations.

It seems like Intel has geared up for a battle in the notebooks segment now that AMD is about to unveil a whole new nteobook platform, and ARM that will enter the PC market with Windows 8. It has cut prices with the Atom platform, shown signs of trying to get its Smart Response technology that uses the SSD for cache in notebooks and and a bunch of new processors at only 17W TDP.

Intel’s new concept is called Ultrabook and will in short be computers for less than 1,000 dollar and less than 0.8″ thick, offering battery hours up to 10 hours and sport SSD or SSD cache through Smart Response. The first Ultrabook computers will arrive by the end of the year sporting Sandy Bridge, but the concept will not start for serious until Ivy Bridge arrives in the first half of 2012.
