Rumors have been going around about Apple’s work on a self-made mobile phone with a close connection to its multimedia players of the iPod series. Apple’s not-yet-launched phone has been nicknamed iPhone and the reason for this is quite obvious. The problem is that the name is already taken, iPhone has namely been officially launched, but not by Apple and not in the form of a multimedia mobile. It’s namely Cisco subsidiary Linksys that has launched iPhone and it is simply a new member of its VoIP family. Thus, the real iPhone has no ties to Apple and mobile phone venture.

This means that even if Apple will not be able to launch an ’iPhone’ as Cisco owns the rights to iPhone for over 10 years ahead. Apple will hardly stop developing mobile phones because of this, but most likely under a different name.
