Kingston seems to have adapted the trend that more and more portable units need more storage capacity as it has launched a new microSD memory card at 512MB. MicroSD, or Transflash as it is also known as, is used by many mobile phones for additional storage. The measurements are the least to say minimalistic and Kingston’s new 512MB model measures only 11x15x1 mm. Kingston has geared its new microSD memory towards the mobile phone market and the multi-functional models that offers everything from MP3 playback to video recording and high quality photographing. This requires a lot of space and that’s where microSD steps in.

”– From digital music to 3D gaming to TV and video, multimedia is emerging as a clear driver for the future growth of the mobile phone market. Without sufficient storage, however, users will be unable to fully leverage the multimedia-rich, advanced mobile phones now coming to market,” said David Linsalata, research analyst, IDC.

Kingston has in its press release announced that it will ship its new microSD memory with an SD adaptor that makes it possible to use the card with any SD compatible unit or card reader. Read and write speed are 8.8MB/s and 6.5MB/s. The price of the new mini memories are $27 for the 256MB model and $45 for the 512MB model.
