Pentium M will be launched in new clothes during the beginning of 2006, under it’s new name Yonah. According to Intel’s roadmaps we can expect Yonah-processors with clockfrequencies up to 2.16GHz, maybe even 2.33GHz, and a higher 667MHz bus, compared to todays Pentium M-bus which runs at 533MHz. Yonah will nevertheless require more power, but the reason for that is quite simple, and acceptable; Yonah is dual-core. Yonah will be launched in many shades, and the T-series, with its listed peak powerconsumption between 25W and 49W is the most likely to be used most frequently in laptops.
Intel will however release less power-consuming versions of the Yonah, and rumour has it that an E-series is planned for DTR (Desktop Replacement) and gamers who will have a maximum power consumption of 50W or more. Intel will generally try to lower the consumption of power in their processors through advanced energy saving functions, but Yonah-based laptops has unfortunately potential to require more power than todays Pentium M-based models.
