Plextor has for the last couple of years been losing market shares after being one of the leading and most respected manufacturers of CD and DVD units for PCs. Now it seems that Shinanokenshi, the mother company of Plextor, has grown tired of the lack of positive figures and has according to new information decided to pull back from the optical market for the CD and DVD formats. The official reason is suppose to be poor margins and a generally increased price competition. By the looks of it there will be no more Plextor devices on the market, but rumors have been circulating that Plextor may instead focus on rebranding OEM units or perhaps focus on the Blu-ray market. In any case, this is most likely the end of Plextor’s CD and DVD units.
