It was revealed that AMD’s performance card Radeon HD 6950 could be transformed into big brother Radeon HD 6970 through a simple BIOS update. PowerColor has coined in on the idea and launched the PowerColor PCS++ HD6950 sporting dual settings that are ready to unlock and overclock from factory.

PowerColor makes use of the dual chips of Radeon HD 6900 series, where it has the regular Radeon HD 6950 BIOS on one chip, and Radeon HD 6970 BIOS on the other. Through a simple lever on the card the user can not only overclock the card but unlock the extra streamprocessors usually unavailable with AMD Radeon HD 6950.

PowerColor PCS++ HD6950 at stock comes with 1408 streamprocessors and 800 MHz GPU frequency. When the lever is moved it switches to the factory overclocked BIOS that also unlocks the Cayman circuit and all of its 1536 streamprocessors, while the GPU frequency is turned up to 880 MHz, identical to Radeon HD 6970. The 2GB GDDR5 memory stays at 1250 MHz (5000 MHz effectively) though.

PCS++ HD6950 overclocked 1536 880 MHz 1250 MHz
PCS++ HD6950 standard 1408 800 MHz 1250 MHz

To spice up the package PowerColor bundles Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The price for this dual-identity card is still unknown.
