Processors with dual cores are just getting more and more common these days and the perhaps biggest drawback is most likely the support for games, or more precise the lack of games supporting dual cores. You simply haven’t gained anything from using a dual core processor when playing PC games. NVIDIA and ATI have lately both launched dual core optimized graphic card drivers which has improved the performance at some occations, but now it seems that also the game developers have started to adapt their games for dual cores. ID Software has namely released a dual core optimized update for Quake 4 together with Intel. At Firingsquad they’ve tested the new patch to see how much of a difference there is using a dual core processor, and the results are the least to say promising. Or what would you say about an increase of 69% with an extra core?
