7970testAMD will release the details on the new graphics card flagship Radeon HD 7970, but already the first benchmarks have leaked. According to AMD’s own benchmarks HD7970 will be 25 to 60% faster than GeForce GTX 580.

AMD intends to claim the throne with the new graphics card series Radeon HD 7900. The top model Radeon HD 7970 will, on paper, launch December 22nd and is expected to top the performance charts. That AMD has developed the fastest single-GPU ccard on the market hardly comes as a surprise, but that the margin will be up to 60% compared to the current king – GeForce GTX 580 från NVIDIA – bodes well.

The benchmarks are from AMD’s own reviewers guide that has been sent to the media, and should of course be taken with a pinch of salt. The benchmarks may not be false, but are angled to show the product from its best side. But with 11 different games tested at 2560 x 1600 pixels it is pretty clear that AMD’s newcomer will offer unmatched performance at launch.

The memory interface and the big memory buffer at 3GB is optimized for the high resolutions that AMD has used in its benchmarks.

For a more objective view of Radeo HD 7970 there is still a few more days to go. AMD has been extremely tight with time and test samples before the paper launch of Radeon HD 7970 and the first cards that are expected to reach the market in the second week of Januari will not last for long, even if the price will be high.
