Samsung is one the manufacturers that has been pushing the mobile phone-market forward with multimegapixel phones and similar. Now it has launched a new CMOS sensor called S5K2E1FX. The new CIS-sensor (Contact Image Sensor) has a resolution at 5 megapixel or 2608×1952 px (QSXGA). At the same time it will, according to Samsung, consume less power and be cheaper than the company’s CCD-equivalent (Charged-Coupled Device). This and that Samsung’s new 5Mpixel-sensor is considerably smaller than the competing modeles makes it very suitable to use in mobile phones and digital cameras. Samsung will start massproducing the new 5Mpixel-sensor during the fourth quarter of 2005.
