Samsung has announced that it has just expanded the maximal storage capacity of its SSD assortment from 64GB to 128GB. Solid State Drives with 128GB capacity are getting more and more common nowadays, and it’s nice to see that the market is catching up with the storage density. Samsung has relied on multi-level cell (MLC) NAND flash chips to double the storage capacity, unfortunately this has some negative consequences. The read speed has dropped from 120MB/s to 100MB/s, while the write speed has been lowered to 70MB/s, compared to 100MB/s with Samsung’s 64GB model.
Both devices use the SATA II interface and Samsung is planning to ship even more spacious SSD devices sometime during the upcoming six months. There is no information regarding the price of this beast, but you can’t on thousands of dollars.
