AMD managed to execute the launch of its dual-GPU card sporting the latest RV770 GPUS perfectly. Radeon HD 4870 X2 claimed the performance crown in most benchmarks and even though the card does have two GPUs, it comes with performance hard to match, even for NVIDIA’s powerful single-GPU card GeForce GTX 280. Even though Radeon HD 4870 X2 have been around for some time, we still haven’t seen from Radeon HD 4850 X2 that was supposed to become AMD’s second RV770-based multi-GPU card.

We’re still waiting for a possible launch date but we have now been reached with some signs of life at least. Pictures of a Sapphire-branded Radeon HD 4850 X2 have been posted over at Asian forum PCHACC.cn. The card sports two 55nm RV770 graphics circuits paired with a total of 2GB GDDR3 memory. Whenever Sapphire will launch the card is still unknown, but judging from the pictures the card seems ready to launch any day now. Expect specifications reflecting those of Radeon HD 4850.
