Transcend has loads of flash based products in its assortment, everything from USB memories to memory cards. And now it has also launched a set of 1.8″ flash based harddrives using the IDE 44pin interface. These minimalistic and durable harddrives have a capacity of 2GB, 4GB or 8GB and are according to Transcend intended for industrial systems where the working environment is tougher and where the hardrive’s Solid State technology is of clear advantage. The size of the hardrives are only 60mm x 69.85mm x 7.0mm and the power consumption is suppose to be very low. Alas, Transcend doesn’t specify any read/write rates but claim the NAND flash chips used offer optimal performance.

”Transcend insists on only using original SLC (Single-Level-Cell) NAND Flash chips in its IDE Flash Disks; which have higher write speeds, lower power consumption, and superior durability compared with IDE Flash products made with MLC (Multi-Level-Cell) chips. In industry, reliability matters, which is why Transcend’s IDE Flash Disks are the perfect high capacity non-volatile Flash Memory solutions for your industrial machines.”

These are hardly intended for desktop computers, but we’re guessing it is jut a matter of time before such will arrive as well. Those who are eager to invest in one of Transcend’s flash hardrives the 8GB flagship costs 769 euro, about $930.
