Microsoft has had a lot if problems in the EU as it received great fines becuase it had violated EU’s fair trade laws and in July of this year it received new fines as it wasn’t helpful enough during the process of the investigation. The fines ended at $357 million and the verdict was passed by commisionary Neelie Kroes. Now Kroes has revealed, during an interview with a Dutch news paper, that the USA government, through its embassy in Brussels, tried to affect the outcome against Microsoft and said that she should be ”nicer” against the software giant.

This contact took place right before Kroes was about to set the final fine to $357 million and Neelie Kroes has through her media contact said that she did not appreciate what USA tried to do.

”Kroes’ spokesperson added in an email to ZDNet UK on Tuesday: ”We can confirm that she was lobbied and that she did not appreciate it.”

Neither Microsoft nor the USA embassy have chosen to leave a comment and the question is if there will be any repercussions from this.
