802.11n is the next generation wireless network standard and already several manufacturers are selling products that use the new protocol. The problem is that the specifications for the prototcol will not be set until the start of 2008, which could result in that today’s 802.11n units will be incompatible when the specifications are set. Now it seems that the Wi-Fi Alliance, the group behind the new protocol, is pretty sure of its fundamental function. Because despite the fact that the specifications will not be set until 2008 it will already start certifying products for the 802.11n standard in March of next year.
Hopefully this will become a guideline to consumers that today have a a hard time deciding, as it’s often impossible to know how compatible the 802.11n products are.
