OCZ earlier revealed that it is working on a new version of its Core Solid State Drive series that would rely on internal RAID 0 for better performance at a reasonable cost. It seems like OCZ has also tested its RAID concept with its coming high-end model Vertex. The result is what it calls Vertex 2 and the performance of this Solid State Drive is almost too good, literally too fast for today’s transfer interface.
Vertex 2 will offer read speeds up to 480MB/s and write speeds up to 550MB/s. This is higher than what the SATA 2.0 interface can handle. SATA 2.0 can’t handle more than 250MB/s which means that you have to turn to SATA 3.0 (SATA 6 Gbps) which can barely keep up with its peak at 550MB/s.
The speed comes from an internal quad-RAID configuration that we know very little about today. Vertex 2 is said to come to the market in the first quarter, but there is no information on the price of this thing yet.
