OCZ Technology continues to focus on SSDs and its latest product launch targets budget users through the new Indilinx Martini controller. OCZ Vertex Plus and Colossus Plus targets different users with its 2.5″ and 3.5″ formats.
The new SSD controller is based on the Indilinx Barefoot controller, but comes with an updated firmware and offers better support for Intel’s and Micron’s 34nm MLC NAND flash circuits. This results in better performance than previous generations.
OCZ Vertex Plus is the more classic SSD with the 2.5″ format that offers storage capacities up to 128GB. Performance specifications haven’t been set yet, but according to the first benchmarks published by Anandtech Indilinx looks to offer performance on par with Intel X25-M G2, with a lot better performance when writing small random files over the older Barefoot controller.

OCZ Colossus Plus is with its 3.5″ format the larger of the two with an integrated RAID 0 configuration where both performance and storage gets a bump. Up to 1TB storage space is matched by 20,000 IOPS at random 4K writes.
Both units use the SATA 3.0 Gbps interface and will have to be considered a void-filler until we get the new SATA 6.0 Gbps controller, dubbed Jet Stream. Prices and detailed specifications of OCZ’s new drives are expected shortly. OCZ Verted Plus is expected to cost a few tens less than Vertex 2 at 128GB capacity.
