Opteron 165 appeared earlier in the news with its very good overclocking potential but those who feel that $300 is a bit much for a processor you can take a look at AMD’s single core Opterons. Opteron 146 is the low end model of this segment and is has almost identical specifications as Opteron 165, except just one core. With the right stepping you may very well have found an Athlon 64 FX-57 simply locked at 10x. But then this is perhaps something you can live with as an Athlon 64 FX-57 costs about $1000 and Opteron 146 can be found at about $150.

At PimpRig they’ve posted a short overlocking article about Opteron 146 where they among other reach 2.8GHz at default voltage(!). The same as FX-57’s default speed. Those who want a 3.0GHz processor based on AMD’s latst core for a $150 should really consider taking a closer look at this.
