Opteron 165 Toledo overclocking

Opteron 165 is a processor many have curious about lately. AMD hasn’t made much noise about this Socket 939-processor and we can understand why. Opteron 165 is basically a Athlon 64 X2-processor with 1MB L2-cache at 1.8Ghz. You can compare this to the cheapest Athlon 64 X2-processorn, 3800+ which works at 2GHz but only has 512KB L2-cache. The fact is that Opteron 165 is a couple of tens of dollars cheaper than X2 3800+ makes it extrmely interesting. That the Opteron-processor theoretically should be able to reach higher performance when overclocked thanks to its larger cache doesn’t exactly make things worse.

At AMDZone they’ve now tested Opteron 165’s overlocking potential and even if ithey quite didn’t reach their goal you can’t complain over the result. Opteron 165 looks to be the most bang for buck AMD dual core processor on the market if you’re ready to overlock. Don’t hesitate to share your experience in the forum.
