Storage maker Other World Computing has great plans for SandForce’s new SSD processors. OWC is working on a PCI-Express solution that will use a RAID configuration with multiple SF-2000 processors for transfer speeds up to 4 GB/s and storage capacities up to 3.2 TB.
OWC Mercury Extreme Pro will be launched for businesses in 2011 and will sport an integrated RAID controller on the circuit board for switching between different RAID configurations; RAID 0, 5 or 10. With intact TRIM support.
The OWC Mercury Extreme Pro Enterprise PCIe Solid State Drive (SSD) cards will be an ideal solution for I/O intensive enterprise servers, storage arrays, and high-end workstations in the financial, telecom, web/mail, gaming, public security, retail, and professional media creation/editing industries.
The performance specifications are most likely just estimates today, but through the PCIe x8 and x16 interfaces it will not only offer 4 GB/s transfer speeds but a whopping 480,000 IOPS which is enough to make most competing models shake in fear.
We will see more manufacturers present solutions with SandForce’s new SSD processors, alas we will have to wait for another couple of months for the final products.
