Panasonic beats Intel to 45 nm

0

It seems that Panasonic will beat Intel’s launch of a 45 nm processor by introducing products containing one of its own 45 nm chips. The chip in question is housed inside the coming Diga-branded DVD and Blu-ray burners, and it’s a 45nm video processor called UniPhier (UNIversal Platform for High-quality Image Enhancing Revolution). The 45 nm circuit consists of 250 million transistors and supports H.264 with up to 1080p signals at the same time. The new devices from Panasonic will appear on November 1st, although only on the Japanese market, but it’s still almost two weeks ahead of Intel’s 45 nm processor launch. Not a great victory for Panasonic, but still a prestigious one.
