Panasonic delivers 50GB BD-ROM at the end of December

We follow the battle between Blu-ray and HD DVD up close in the hunt for the next generation DVD format. Now that 2006 is closing in since both technologies will be launched it is for once not just the specifications but real hardware coming. Panasonic has namely announced it will deliver the first evaluation copies of 50GB BD-ROMs already in December. In other words readable Blu-ray discs with dual layers at 50GB (2x25GB). The factory in Torrance City, California, which has made the discs earlier delivered single layer BD-ROMs (25GB) in April, 2005. The factory is already ready to massproduce the 25GB discs for the coming market.
