Panasonic will follow Pioneer’s launch of an integrated Blu-ray burner for PCs. Matsushita will according to PC Watch launch its first Blu-ray burner under its Panasonic brand on May 12 and the new unit, Panasonic LF-MB121JD, is expected to arrive on the Japanese market on June 10. Unfortunately Panasonic doesn’t seem to have any plans for launching its unit to end consumers in other parts of the world, but despite that LF-MB121JD is cheaper than Pioneer’s BRD-101A you can hardly call the new blu-ray burner a catch. Panasonic’s units costs about 100 000 Yen which translates into about $900, but should perhaps expect about $1,000 if the burner actually appear in stores across seas.
The Blu-ray burners are coming, but the supply is very poor and at very high prices. So the question now is just when and how much a burner would cost for a normal huming living in the world outside of Japan.
