Small preview image

The first HD DVD players have already arrived for the home electronics market and the Blu-ray camp is expected to launch its players during the summer, but we’ve heard rather little about PC units. Therefore it is extra interesting to see that Panasonic will release the first Blu-ray PC units in June. Panasonic LF-MB121JD will sport 2x write speeds for BD-R/BD-RE media. The burner will also be able to burn DVD discs but at perhaps not the most impressive rate: 8x for DVD+/-R. The price for the Blu-ray burner is expected to be about 850$, which is quite a lot and considering the prices of the BD-media it is pretty clear that the HD formats will be very expensive to use as storage during 2006.
