PCI-Express 3.0 was severely delayed in 2009 and the release of the specification was moved up to the second half of 2010. This time the schedule seems to be holding and on the menu we see data transfers up to 8 GT/s.

This can be compared to the PCI-Express 2.0 specification and the theoretic transfer speed of  5 GT/s. In reality the performance of PCIe 3.0 will be nearly double that of version 2.0 thanks to a more efficient design.

Beside higher bandwidth few other details have been revealed. It will of course be backward compatible with current PCI-Express products.
