AOpen is so far the only company that has launched a Pentium M-based SFF-barebone, the AOpen EY855-II XC Cube. Well now it turns out they have yet another model coming in their series of Pentium M capable SFF-barebones and MZ 855, or ‘Cube Mini’, which the new barebone is called, is clearly a very interesting product.
AOpen Cube Mini stands out from the crowd with its very minimalistic measurements, which even compared to other barebones can be considered small.

“The Intel 855GME-based system, which the company has dubbed the Cube Mini, will only be 106mm tall and will support Socket 479 Pentium M or Centrino processors, a 400MHz FSB and up to 2GB of DDR333 memory. Although running a notebook CPU, the MZ 855 will still support desktop hard drives, as well as two front-panel USB ports.”

The Cube Mini will support AGP-based graphics cards as long as they aren’t longer than 185mm. In other words we might be looking on the best/smallest competitor to the Apple Mac Mini. Although it is a bit bigger it’s quite a lot more powerful.

We look forward to seeing Cube Mini on the market and of course also the 915M-bases model, which should arrive during the middle of the second quarter.
