Pentium M is Intel’s very popular mobile processor-series that has started to get a foot in on the desktop market as well. Mainly because of the excellent performance and low power consumption. The next big step for Pentium M will be the launch of the core Yonah, namely the first dual-core version of Pentium M. At Laptop Logic they’ve disclosed Intel’s roadmaps for Pentium M and there is a lot of interestign information. Among others we can see that Intel will launch a whole range of versions of Yonah already the first quarter of 2006 with a top of the line version running at 2.17GHz. Except for the regular Pentium M Yonah-processors with dual cores it will also launch Pentium M LV-processors with dual cores the first quarter. LV stands for Low Voltage which shoudl result in even lower power consumption and heat dissipation. Yonah will except for dual cores support SSE3, Intel Virtualisation, better power saving features, etc. Yonah looks quite promising and we can only hope that Intel will offer better support for Pentium M on the desktop market.
