NVIDIA got a lot of criticism for showing a fake demo card during its presentation of the Fermi architecture. It looks like things have evolved a bit now as the first picture of a genuine card has been posted. yesterday NVIDIA presented its first Tesla products using Fermi and it looks like there are working units circulating.
NVIDIA’s 40nm Fermi architecture contains more than 3 billion transistors and is a very complex circuit that the company hopes will open new doors for GPGPU applications. Fermi won’t be just for generic calculations but can of course also be used for pushing pixels in games.
Under the skin of Fermi
The picture shows a Fermi-based test card running Unigine’s DirectX 11 Heaven benchmark. With the first products slated for Q1 2010 performance and drivers are probably not top notch and that’s probably why there were not mention of numbers.
We now have proof Fermi lives, although at a very early state.
