The followers of the optical Blu-ray format seems to be somewhere in between a rock and a hard place at the moment. First we have Sony’s problems with the making of PlayStation 3, which indirectly has caused a delay of the company’s stationary Blu-ray player. And now the next hit comes as Pioneer has announced that it will have to delay its BDP-HD1 player even more. Pioneer BDP-HD1 was suppose to arrive in October, after being postponed from its May launch, but now Pioneer has announced that the player will not arrive until December. The reason is simply that the player doesn’t pass the company’s quality control, whether this is because of the optical component Sony has been having problems with is uncertain though. Anyhow, it seems that HD DVD will have to continue to roam by itself waiting for the competing HD format Blu-ray to arrive.
