PlayStation 3 is Sony’s coming video game console, which is expected to become a great challenger to Microsoft’s current Xbox 360 console. But what PS3 has in common with the movie Minority Report is perhaps less known, at least the latest rumors says there is a connection between the two. We have earleir reported about a technology which will make it possible to create transparet OLED displays, just as in Minority Report, but this time it’s the navigation system we’re talking about. Sony has started up a cooperation with Israeli company Prime Sense which will introduce its patented technology, which makes it possible to let users work in a 3D environment through video sensor. Simply so that the user can control the video game console through hand motions just as if the interface was floating in the air around you, like in Minority Report.
“In conclusion, we have a very reliable source that claims Sony will have a PS3 peripheral which will recognize a user and his entire environment as well as his movements and will incorporate them into useful, in-console actions. The applications of this tech to gaming are obvious and if this story is proved right, Sony may yet manage to steal Nintendo’s thunder in this generation of the console wars.”
This is of course just rumors so far but if this turns out to be correct it seems Sony has some truly interesting things coming. But at the same time it sounds like a very advanced technology which makes it quite doubtful.
