PlayStation 3 will be the most expensive of the three consoles that makes up the new generation, so far it’s just Microsoft’s Xbox 360 console that is available, while PS3 and Nintendo Wii are expected to arrive before the end of the year. PlayStation 3 will be sold in two different versions where the cheaper model will cost 499 euro and the more expensive 599 euro. You can compare that to the 299 and 399 euro the two Xbox 360 models cost. Sony does not believe this will affect the sales at all as it believes that consumers, just as Sony, considers PlayStation 3 a long term investment.
“When you bring into new technology, do you go for a cheaper transitional [product], or do you take a chance on future-proof, higher technology which will keep you going for many, many years?”
We are convinced that many consumers look at it as a long term investment, but hardly everyone?
