Plextor announced two new optical drives today. Until now, the only reader they had was their 40x SCSI cdrom. Now they offer both 54x cdrom, and an 16x/40 speed DVD drive. Both are IDE drives.Digit-life spread the word that these drives will be configured to run at 40x (media protection), although users can select higher maximum speeds.
Plextor didn’t enclose further details. Personally I think it’s a bit funny; most companies first release readers, and then go to writers…
