Plextor is more than just high-quality optical readers and burners. Plextor has been making external harddrives for some time, and as an extension of its harddrive lineup, a series of media players designed to store your media and connect directly to your TV through a component output. It can handle most of the common video codecs, including DivX, and supports resolutions up to 720p. At €225 it looks like a quite handy multimedia solution for those who don’t want to build an entire HTPC for playing multimedia.

Press release after the break;

grows to 500GB

– ideal Christmas gift to store/play photos & HD movies

An ideal Christmas gift, Plextor has grown the capacity of its hugely popular HD PC-to-TV mediaplayer to 500GB, but keeps its pocket-sized case for ultra portability. The Plextor MediaX PX-MPM500U, is capable of playing HD movies and music through your TV or hi-fi simply and easily.   Rudy De Meirsman, Sales & Marketing Manager at Plextor, says: “We have only recently introduced our first pocket-sized MediaX and it has proved very popular with buyers across Europe – at 160 or 320GB. Now with 500GB it is even more appealing, especially in run-up to Christmas when it will make a fantastic present. They are ideal for transferring pictures or HD movies to your family TV.

With Christmas fast approaching, the combined mediaplayer/ external HDD device makes an ideal gift for loved ones – perfect for taking your holiday photos and movie footage with you wherever you go.

The diminutive player also looks the part as it comes with funky interchangeable colour skins. At just 17.5mm thin (& 78mm wide), the tiny player is not much bigger than the smallest 2.5” portable HDD enclosures.

With video upscaling to 720P (HD-Ready), the Plextor MediaX is a high performance drive with the ability to play a wide variety of file types.
