Plextor PX-B900A is one of the first Blu-ray burner that we will see on the market and when Plextor announced its first Blu-ray burner it spoke of a launch in September/October of 2006. PX-B900A also sports the regular DVD format, but not with especially impressive specifications. The units burns DVD+/R/-R/+RW media at 8x speed while DVD-RW has to settle with 6x speed. Dual layer DVD media is handled by PX-B900A at 4x speed, but it is hardly the DVD burning features people will focus upon when they spend their money on one of the first Blu-ray burners available.

Plextor’s burners both read and write single-layer Blu-ray media (25GB) at 2x speed and use an 8MB memory buffer. It did not want to reveal any prices and that might just be for the best, Pioneer’s equivalents are expected to cost $900 and $1000.
