Laptops come in all shapes and sizes, where DTR (DeskTop Replacement) is usually the thin line between desktop and laptops. They are usually larger, heavier and better equipped than other laptops, but NextComputing has laptop series that really bends the definitions. Its NextDimension series is namely a series of mobile workstations and it has now announced the latest incarnation of the series. Its latest NextDimension namely comes with two of Intel’s new and power efficient quad-core Xeon 5300 processors.
Except from the 8 physical cores, the “laptop” supports up to 24GB RAM, 1.9TB harddrive space (up to 12 160GB harddrives!) and the icing on the cake is an integrated 17″ HD display.
“With the Quad-Core Intel(R) Xeon(R) Processor 5300 Series in its line of portable flextop computers, end-users will enjoy the performance of 8 processor cores and maintain the convenience of laptop-like portability,”
The carry-along computer is certainly portable, but hardly the most convenient we’ve seen, which is why they call it a Flextop instead of a Laptop. The price depends on the configuration, but if one would ask one would probably not afford it, as usual.
