PowerColor is a well known manufacturer of ATI-based graphics cards and is usually considered an affordable option with few distinct extra features. But now that PowerColor is about to present its latest model of Radeon HD 3870 X2, it has proven that it can do things differently. PowerColor has come up with a new circuit board, which isn’t just smaller than the reference board, but also sports 4 DVI ports. PowerColor has moved the PLX chip, which connects the two RV670 circuits and equipped the card with a new cooler made from aluminum. According to Fudzilla, the cooler is suppose to be very efficient and lighter than ATI’s reference design.
PowerColor’s new Radeon HD 3870 X2 is noticeably shorter, but also slightly higher than the reference design. PowerColor has been able to reduce the power connectors to two 6-pins PCIe power connector, I.e. no 8-pin connector. Despite the compact design and smaller cooler, the card is suppose to come factory overclocked, but the source doesn’t state by how much. When and how much remains uncertain.
