As we reported earlier this week, Qimonda is in big trouble. It is has petitioned for the opening of insolvency proceedings and what will happen to the company is a bit fuzzy right now. In an interview with EETimes Qimonda has started that it will still be able to deliver the contracts it has omitted to, which could be a relief to those looking forward to AMD’s coming Radeon graphics cards that are said to use Qimonda GDDR5 chips.

Since we know that AMD is working closely with Qimonda and uses its GDDR5 chips with many of its models we of course started to wonder how this would impact the launch of coming graphics cards. Delays dues to supply issues or switching memory partner felt like possible scenarios. Qimonda has decided to make a public comment and officially announce that;

“It is not ‘business as usual’, but we [will] do everything possible to maintain production and fulfill supply contracts,”

Qimonda says that it is not having any problems with uneasy partners or customers and and will fulfill all commitments.

At the moments the hunt for a scapegoat to explain the situation of the company is still going on. Some are blaming the mother company Infineon, other the company CEO Kin Wah Loh who has been close to invisible and paralyzed by the situation. No matter who’s fault it was, the company is in big trouble and we can only hope for a quick and solid fix.
