Sony is said to have taken mobile SSD storage to a whole new level with its coming models of the VAIO Z series. The company speaks of a new kind of storage solution in the product datasheet; “SSD RAID0:64GB/128GB x 4”. Exactly what this means isn’t explained any further, but it looks pretty obvious that we will be dealing with four separate SSDs merged through RAID 0 for better read and write performance.
Sony boasts that the storage solution can write 1GB file in 4 seconds (250MB/s) while a regular 5400 RPM drive would need around 24 seconds to do the same.
With the lack of space in modern notebooks this could be a flash card setup, much like the one we have seen from PhotoFast earlier on. More information on Sony’s VAIO Z series will most likely appear during CES this week.
