Quake 4 processor performance

Quake 4 is based on Doom3’s engine but has been tuned and tweaked a bit so it comes as no surprise that ID Software’s new FPS is a very demanding such. But what happends if you pull down the graphic and let the processor affect the performance? This is just what they wanted to find out over at Firingsquad where they have tested no less than 20 different processors by AMD and Intel in an attempt to see whixh one performs best with Quake 4. They also test the game with different amount of memory, 1GB vs. 2GB to see if it has any real effect on the performance.

The result came out as expected with AMD coming out on top, but they also who that nVidia’s dual core optimized drivers really do add some performance with lower ersolution, at least with the AMD-platform. Athlon 64 X2 can with these drivers surpass the high end processors of the FX-series.
