Qualcomm is riding the wave. It’s ARM-based Snapdragon processor have been adapted not only by smartphone makers like HTC and Acer but also computer builders have taken a shine to the energy efficient processor. The current top model runs at 1GHz and can be found in both smartphones and smartbooks. Qualcomm will upgrade it though and by the end of January it will present a 45nm Snapdragon, 8X50A, operating at 1.3GHz, but there’s more.

Before the end of the year Qualcomm will release its first dual-core Snapdragon CPU. The processor will be called 8X72 and house two Scorpion CPU cores clocked at 1.5GHz each. This enables playback of 1080p video signals and other heavy loads.

We heard rumors of a Qualcomm’s dual-core Snapdragon CPU back in June 2009 and this year already we will see it on the market. Together with the circuits like NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 and Marvell ARMADA we should see a big boos tin performance on the mobile market during 2010.
