We can assure you that we will be writing a lot about AMD/ATI and its R600 graphics circuit the upcoming period and now there is some new information about the card’s physical appearance and what the R600 circuit is capable of. As we’ve earlier reported R600 will be launched with a huge cooler and whether there will be two models, one for OEMs and one for retailers, remains to be seen. But according to VR-Zone it has now been confirmed that one of the cards measures 34 cm (13 3/8″) in length(!). You can compare this to the previous champion Voodoo 5 6000, which was “not even” 32 cm (12 ½”). The illustration of the card that earlier appeared is in other words pretty much dead on, which should make more than a few consumers start measuring their cases.
Except from the mighty size of the card, Hexus has come across a picture of ATI’s updated Ruby demo. Ruby is, as you perhaps know, ATI’s PR chick #1 and has been used to demonstrate real-time rendering with several of ATI’s previous graphics circuits. Ruby is heading for an appearance in the next rendering demo for R600 and she is looking better than ever before.
DX10 Ruby for R600 vs. DX9 Ruby for X1800/X1900
None of this has been confirmed by ATI/AMD though and should thus be considered with a pinch of salt. R600 is looking to become a card we won’t forget for some time, hopefully for its performance and not it’s sheer size.
